Editorial and Photo assistant

The Mosaic Journalism Program is seeking editorial assistants to help with the Mosaic 2023
summer workshop, June 12-23. Two would work in the general newsroom and one would work
in photo.

All Assistants Must:

  • Have a California driver’s license and insurance.

  • Have a car in working order you can drive for Mosaic

  • Be available from 8:45 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday the first week and Monday -

  • Sunday the second week, and until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22. Also be able to shop

  • for food and other items outside of those hours.

  • Be available noon-3 p.m. Sunday, June 4 for orientation

  • Participate in training for editorial assistants and in post-session evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Drive and accompany reporters and photographers to assignments

  • Purchase food and supplies

  • Set up and clean up breakfast and snacks

  • Plan social media postings

  • Help ensure the newsroom runs smoothly and is properly equipped

  • Help where needed with production

  • Help produce award certificates for students

  • Help directors and instructors with various tasks such as producing press passes and

  • award certificates

Photo Assistant: 

  • Would help instruct students in using camera equipment, take individual and group portraits and candid shots of the program, help edit and caption student photos, and help the photo editor where needed.

  • Will work alongside a professional photojournalist, with the opportunity to learn technique and style.

Location

Spartan Daily Newsroom, Dwight Bentel Hall, San Jose State University

Stipend: $1,200. We will reimburse mileage.
